FAQs

Are all of your flavours vegan?

Of course! All of our flavours are Certified Vegan by Vegan Action.

Are all of your flavours gluten-free?

Yes! Our flavours are gluten-free certified.

Are Nora’s products safe for those with allergies?

We understand that making food decisions is a personal decision so we want to give you enough info to decide this for yourself.

All of our flavours contain cashews and coconut, and Peanut Butter & Chocolate also contains peanuts.

All of our flavours have a “May Contain” statement that includes tree nuts and sesame. This is because our cashews come from a facility that handles many different types of nuts as well as sesame, so they cannot guarantee a complete lack of these allergens despite strict allergen controls and cleaning procedures.

In addition, our Mint Chip flavour has a “May Contain” statement for soy because there is soy present at the facility where our chocolate is produced. Cookies & Crème has a “May Contain” statement for egg because there are eggs present at the facility where the cookies are produced so there is a small risk of cross-contamination.

Check out our Flavours page for full ingredients and allergens lists for all of our flavours and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have more questions.

What makes your Nora’s so creamy?

Short answer? Cashews - those little guys have a perfect neutral taste and creaminess which, when blended with water to create a cream-like, flawlessly replaces dairy cream in our recipes.

Long answer? Making ice cream is a science and we’ve worked with ice cream experts to adapt that science to work with plant-based ingredients. What can’t plants do?!

Is the sugar you use refined with bone char?

No way! We use organic cane sugar in all of our flavours which, by default, is never refined using bone char. We also have statements from all of our suppliers that certify no bone char is used in the processing of the ingredients we use.

Will you come out with a sugar-free ice cream?

No plans to do so at this point in time. We use organic cane sugar in all of our recipes because it’s a sustainable vegan sweetener that’s easily digested.

What’s the deal with the palm oil in your Cookies & Crème flavour?

The palm oil in our cookies is RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) Certified and it is certified at the highest, most rigorous level of certification called “Identity Preserved”. Identity Preserved means that our supplier knows the exact plantation that the oil came from and the oil hasn’t been mixed with oils from any other sources throughout the supply chain. This certification guarantees that the oil has been produced in a sustainable and responsible manner, protecting the rainforest and all its residents while also ensuring that the farmers are paid and treated fairly.

We completely understand having reservations about palm oil because we have them too. However, since doing a bunch of research, we’ve learned that a total palm oil boycott isn’t always the best solution to the problem. Palm oil is such an incredibly efficient crop (producing way more oil per land area than any other crop), so switching to alternative vegetable oils to replace palm oil could require 4 to 10 times more land and potentially spread the problem of deforestation to other areas of the globe. Additionally, millions of already established smallholder farmers rely on palm oil production for their livelihoods. For more info, check out this article from the World Wildlife Fund that explains all of this in greater detail.
